Anti-War? Not Entirely
Undoubtedly in time this blog will be labeled as “anti-war” by those right and left. A point of clarification seems in order early on, specifically as this term applies to me, Johnny must speak on these issues on his own accord.
I am not anti-war, such a notion is idealistic and ignores centuries of history. War can and should be limited; it should be waged for just reasons and only as a last resort. However, to state that you are anti-war is essentially akin to stating you are anti-human nature.
It is probably safe to say I am not anti-war as far as Afghanistan was concerned. The events of the 80 odd years prior to the 9/11 attacks (yes you really do have to look at the history from at least that long of a view to really get a grip on the why of all of this) are complicated. It is fair enough to say that Bin Laden claimed responsibility for the attacks and that is enough to justify a robust butt kicking, historical grievances notwithstanding.
It is fair to say I am anti-war in terms of the US invasion of Iraq. Just so we are clear on that fact. I, like Johnny, have been there and placed my boots all over that war-torn ground. I am no pinko-communist. I fully support any war that meets the basic criteria of justness, reasonableness, morality and legality. The US invasion of Iraq meets none of those criteria. I am certain there will be more on this topic here in the future.
