Who, What, Why
So here we have just another blog among the growing thousands such annoyances. Why you ask and for what nefarious, devious and secretive purpose does this blog exist?
The why is quite simple, somebody, somewhere must stand on the side of right, justice (not equality but raw justice), and against tyrants and the minions of evil, servility, mediocrity and utter idiocy that are so prevalent in the world of "ideas". The blogshpere is indeed a cacophony of voices and it would seem that out of the den of noise, reason and common-sense would occasionally rise to the level of general hearing and understanding. Sadly, with a few remarkable exceptions, this is seldom the case.
The League of the Scarlet Pimpernel is a loose collaboration of principled minds with the intent of adding a collective voice of reason to the noise that surrounds us daily. Our topics will range from the theological to the political, the historical to the philosophical. We will not shun the current, the items that create firestorms of discussion in the digital environ of blogs and bloggers. These are the items that provide opiates to the masses and the simple fact is that to have any influence in the world today you must have some general appeal. I have learned the hard way that a single scope approach to blogging, sticking to a simple message, repeated over and over again with the presentation of ever increasing levels of factual data is simply not enough to influence many. If you cannot be heard then there is not a great reason to speak.
Do not take me wrong, speaking one's convictions and beliefs and laying out logical and forcible arguments is important. However, the goal and intent of this collaborative blogging effort is to build an audience by providing a conversation driven by our particular perspective but relevant to the topics that interest the informed and discerning demographic of the blogsphere.
Who are we then you ask. We share a commonality of core principles and beliefs (although not a lock-step adherence to a dogma). Anonymity or pseudo-anonymity is the order of the day in the spirit of the original League of the Scarlet Pimpernel; we are but ordinary Joes by day and defenders of truth and foes to egalitarianism, statism, tyranny and mediocrity by night. (humor slightly intended).
Finally, why is this blog hosted on the American Secession Project site? I am indeed one of the organizers of that site, in point of fact as time and circumstances progress I am more times than not the primary catalyst behind that project. Like me, my compatriots in that project are often unavailable to contribute greatly. However, having said that, the purpose of this blog is not necessarily to directly support the efforts of ASP in other than ancillary means. The purpose of ASP is to place the concept of secession in the forefront of contemporary political thought as a legal and legitimate recourse and option. As stated above, the purpose of the League of the Scarlet Pimpernel is to shed a particular perspective on contemporary issues. These two goals could be mutually exclusive, could be mutually supportive or could be independently sustainable. It all depends upon the topic and audience.
